Canada has risen to the top of the list of top three study abroad destinations for students. The number of students travelling to Canada for secondary, post-secondary, post-graduate, Ph.D., and even English language courses has increased dramatically in the last three years. The number of overseas students who come to Canada each year is growing at an exponential rate. According to the Canadian Bureau of Foreign Education, there were only about 642,480 international students in Canada in 2019.
The safe, affordable study programme and being welcomed by communities are the key reasons for Canada’s popularity among overseas students. A student may be awarded a three-year Post-Graduation Work Permit after successfully completing a study programme at a Canadian university or college (a approved Learning Institute), allowing them to apply for Permanent Residence.
Many students who become permanent residents eventually take up Canadian citizenship and sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency.
